CITIC Group hands over the second batch of COVID-19 relief supplies donation to Myanmar

On May 19, CITIC Group donated the second batch of protective equipment to help Kyauk Phyu fight against COVID-19. The relief supplies including 25,600 medical masks, 350 sets of PPE and 650 medical face shields were handed over by CITIC Myanmar to U Aye San, the representative of Donations Receiving Committee (DRC) for COVID-19 Epidemic Prevention and Control of Kyauk Phyu.

At the handover ceremony, U Zaw Aye Maung, Yangon Region Minister for Rakhine Ethnic Affairs, expressed sincere gratitude to the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar and CITIC Group on behalf of the people of Rakhine. “Yesterday afternoon, the first confirmed case of COVID-19 was detected in Rakhine which signaled a new start of the region's fight against the epidemic. The donation from CITIC Group not only provides practical assistance to local communities, but also inspires mental encouragement of local government and people in this difficult time," he said.

 

"The two batches of relief supplies donated by CITIC Group are very practical to local people and target real need for the fight against the epidemic,” said U Aye San. “30 tons of high-quality rice and 10 disinfectant sprays donated by CITIC Group as the first batch of relief supplies successfully arrived in Kyauk Phyu on May 10. CITIC Group also took care of the transportation and assisted the distribution to thousands of households,” he added.

At the ceremony, Mr. Tan Shufu, Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar, said:" CITIC Group is concerned about the epidemic in Myanmar. In spite of difficulties like shortage of medical equipment and tough transportation, it has completed the delivery of two batches of donation within just half a month. This reflects Chinese companies' commitment to undertake social responsibilities in Myanmar.”

During the epidemic, CITIC Group deeply cares about the health and safety of people in Kyauk Phyu. To make sure good quality, satisfied certificate and standard qualifications of donated goods, CITIC Group has compared dozens of top medical equipment suppliers from China and selected the best ones to provide the items in spite of more manpower and a higher cost. CITIC Group has also imported another 25,000 surgical masks from China as the third batch of donation which is scheduled to arrive in Sittwe by the end of May.
